OVERVIEW:

The purpose of this Small Grant opportunity is to support Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) that are current awardees of Best Starts funds. This RFA seeks to support the infrastructure needed to enhance CBOs' capacity to provide services and programming. This includes the systems, resources, and processes that sustain the key functions of an organization.

COMMUNICATION:

The RFA Lead is the sole point of contact for this procurement. All communication regarding the subject matter of this opportunity between the applicants and DCHS upon release of this RFA must be through ZoomGrants or the RFA Lead, as follows:

Applicants are advised to review these documents in their entirety for guidance on the purpose, application questions, and deadlines. Applicants are responsible for regularly checking ZoomGrants for any updates, clarifications, or amendments that may be uploaded.

This RFA is open to organizations with active King County Best Starts Department of Community and Human Services, Department of Public Health, Schools Out Washington or Seattle Foundation contracts. All currently funded Best Starts providers are eligible and encouraged to apply. Some priority may be given to Best Starts providers that have been operating for less than five years and/or are expanding services to a new geographic area, or that did not receive a 2023 Best Starts capacity building small grant.

Awarded funds must be spent within 90 days after the funds are distributed and must be applied to the organizational infrastructure to support programming and services as described in the application.

Items that will not be supported by these funds:

  1. Expenses such as, payroll, rent, ongoing consumables, utilities, or other indirect costs associated with running the organization.
  2. Capital expenses like building repairs, furniture, or property upkeep.
  3. Advocacy work.
  4. Capacity building services currently offered through the Best Starts Capacity Building program. This includes coaching, training, clinics, and workshops on the following topic areas: Equity, racial and social justice, finance, human resources, organizational development, board development, marketing, legal, data and evaluation, needs assessment, and IT support. Awardees may work with their current capacity building consultants to identify projects or needs that can be funded through these Small Grants.
