Five County Association of Governments has launched an Emergency Small Business Grant Program in response to COVID-19. The goal of the program is to assist small businesses located in Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane, and Washington County (Excluding St. George City) that have been hit hardest by the COVID-19 outbreak. Funding for the program is provided through the Utah State Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. The CDBG program received additional funding to address COVID-19 through the recently passed CARES Act. Eligible businesses in Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane, and Washington County may apply for $5,000.
Grant funds shall be utilized by businesses who are open or plan to reopen in compliance with State and County Health Orders. These funds are made available by an award from the CARES Act to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program which requires beneficiaries to meet a Low to Moderate Income (LMI) standard.
The LMI standard can be met in any of the following three ways,
- The business owner is 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI), for businesses with five or less employees (owner included) only;
- Business employees are 80% or less AMI;
- Area that business serves is a LMI area. We will need documentation of your qualification.
*Businesses with five or less employees including the owner only need to qualify the owner. Businesses with more than five employees need to qualify the employees.
There will be an attempt to aid as many businesses as possible, the filing of an application is not, nor should it be perceived to be, a guarantee of funding. Applicants should note that there is a set amount appropriated for these grants, and once this budgetary limit has been reached additional applications will not be considered.
