Update: The grant deadline has been extended. Grant applications will now close on February 14, 2022 at 2 pm Eastern Standard Time. No exceptions.
The Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) is excited to announce that we will be soliciting applications for the first round of Food Waste Innovation Grants. These grants will provide support for food businesses -- including restaurants, caterers, food and beverage manufacturers, food trucks, and shared commercial kitchens -- and commercial corridors like Main Streets and Business Improvement Districts, to minimize their food waste going to landfill and minimize urban rat populations. This will help businesses meet the future requirements of the Zero Waste Omnibus Act while reducing costs in both food purchasing and waste disposal expenses.
Eligible applicants are registered and licensed local food businesses with fewer than 25 employees. Nonprofits are also eligible when providing direct support for multiple eligible businesses.
This application will allow you to complete basic Eligibility & Program Entry questions and submit eligibility documents in order to be eligible for a free food waste assessment and to enter you into the lottery for free food scraps collection.
To apply for the direct funding of the Food Waste Innovation Grants, eligible businesses and nonprofits must complete the Narrative Project Description and Budget sections. Nonprofits must additionally upload letters of support from their partner businesses. See the RFA and the Letters of Support tab for more details.
